Prepare the requirement before provisioning
Start with the application, its important business functions and the people responsible for operating it. Record where the audience and relevant services are located, what data must be retained and which workloads are currently measured. The Cloudways getting-started documentation explains a platform workflow; it does not tell you which server is adequate for an unknown site. Avoid opening a trial or purchasing capacity just to make an incomplete planning exercise feel concrete.
Separate infrastructure from application choices
The selected provider, region and resources are infrastructure decisions. WordPress configuration, plugins, external email and business rules are application decisions that remain necessary around them. Write both sets down. A fictional freelancer moving a client brochure site should know who controls the domain and where form messages go before worrying about a larger machine. Missing ownership information is not solved by choosing a more expensive hosting plan.
Prepare and test the first workload
Choose a small set of representative checks for the receiving environment: public pages, authenticated work where applicable and an authorized test of the important business path. Keep tests disconnected from real customer transactions unless specifically approved. The aim is to establish a usable baseline, not to manufacture a performance result. Document what was tested, what was not and which findings would stop the migration before traffic changes.
Record the recovery route and cost
Before provisioning, understand the selected provider’s scaling and storage constraints, the recurring quote and the available recovery procedure. Do not assume that a later downsize simply reverses every earlier change. Assign an owner for billing and another for technical operations if those are different people. A first-server plan is ready when its requirements, responsibilities and verification steps are understandable—not merely when a product configuration can be selected.
